Each day another interview, so today we have German’s Deadsoil! I made it on May 14th, 2004.

» Hi, first of all, how are you doing?
We just finished recording our new record and we’re preparing for new shows, so everything’s going fine right now.

» Well, could you please introduce your band?
Deadsoil is around since late 2002 and now consists of Friedrich Weber on vocals, Boris Pracht and Jens Basten playing guitar, Chris Bass on drums and me, Stefan Eutebach on bass. For additional info about the band and its members you should head over to http://www.deadsoil.net.

» I saw that Jan left the band because of his studies. Leaving the band just before a European tour must be hard!? How do you feel about it?
We – although being quite a young band – went through quite a couple of line-up changes already. It’s always kind of hard and somehow slowes you down a bit. Right before the recordings it’s even harder. We were talking a lot about it before and everyone agreed it’s the best solution for us as a band and for Jan personally. Luckily we found a great replacement in Jens Basten really quick, who fits in the band really well. You can already hear him on the new recordings.

» You’re gonna record “the venom divine” at Berno Studios in Sweden. Is it the studio where Caliban recorded their last release? Why do you go that far to record ?
As we speak the recordings for “the venom divine” are already done and mixing is in progress. It’s not the studio Caliban recorded at recently, we chose Berno Studios because we loved the sound he did for bands like The Haunted or Amon Amarth and because of what we heard upfront about the work with these guys. And – to say this already: We’re not disappointed! The new material turned out amazing from the rough mix we have already so far. Can’t wait to get it mixed and mastered.

» How have you been approached by lifeforce, how is it to be on this label?

We had been in touch for quite a while already and after the release of the “forever the enemy” MCD we were looking for a new label which would be able to support us in our development as a band and giving us at the same time a much wider platform to get our songs heard. Stefan and Lifeforce was and is the best choice for us and and we’re still very excited to be able to work together with probably the biggest european label for this kind of music.

» What do you think about Europe with 25 countries ?
This is a rather difficult topic to talk about in a few words. While some countries like Poland or Hungary already seem to be ready for the European Union, others such as Romania still suffer a lot of internal problems which I personally think are hardly to be solved until their estimated joining in 2007. Still those countries seem to be really excited about joining the union and their believe in making progress is stronger than their fear in loosing their integrity and of being exploited by the economically strong union-countries. I really don’t know what to expect in the next coming years, but I know the ”leading” parties like germany or france aren’t willing to give in their status to have other countries participate in “their business”. It’s a rather hard topic to discuss because we’re at the corner of a big and potentially strong European Union, which might be able to be more equal to the u.s. dominance, but it’s hard to say how it’s gonna turn out at this point in time.

» Now we’re talking about it, what do you think about the rise of fascism all over Europe? Are you affected by that in Germany?

What I find quite disturbing is the rise of right-winged parties and people over the past years, just to mention people like Le Pen in France, Schill in Germany, Haider in Austria and also in Belgium you had this stuff, although on a more local level. This list might be continued as the situation is not very different in countries like Norway, Italy or Denmark as well. And not only in the European Union, but also in countries preparing to join the Union. People just cannot become aware enough of these tendencies, although it might not effect everyone’s daily life yet!

» Would you rather be on tour all the time and meet new faces or just playing local shows in front of your fans?

I think everyone being in a band loves being on tour and having the chance to meet new people, get to play in places and countries we’ve never been before – so do we. On the other hand we’re not making music for a living, but have other jobs besides the band. So we have to really choose where and when to tour. There’s some more in the planning by now, but nothing confirmed so far. Please check our website from time to time for most recent updates.

» This summer you’ll tour over Europe with Caliban, MachineMade God and Destiny, how do you feel about that?
Being part of the M.A.D Raid Over Europe – Tour this august and september is a great opportunity for us. I believe this is a strong package and we’re expecting it to be tons of fun. First shows are already booked, for updates you might want to check http://www.mad-tourbooking.de – there’s a link for this Tour.

» Any last words?
